چکیده

We consider the spin interaction in the Hamiltonian for the positively charged exciton X, determining the spin states and Zeeman-level diagrams for X in which the heavyand light-hole bands are degenerate and nondegenerate. The former case results in an X with quintuplet and septet states in addition to the singlet and triplet states that are also observed for the negatively charged exciton X. When the heavyand light-hole bands are split X can comprise two heavy holes, two light holes, or a heavy and a light hole. The heavy-hole X Zeeman-level diagram is found to be completely analogous to that of X, while the light-hole X has more optical transitions and a different Zeeman splitting in photoluminescence. X consisting of a heavy and a light hole has no coupled hole states, and is truly a heavy~or light-! hole exciton plus a light ~heavy! hole.

Negatively and positively charged excitons in GaAs/AlxGa1-xAs quantum wells.

We report the observation of the positively charged exciton and of the triplet state of the negatively charged exciton in modulation doped GaAs quantum wells. Applying a gate voltage at high magnetic fields we find that the photoluminescence line of the two-dimensional electron gas smoothly transforms into a negatively charged exciton and not into a neutral exciton. The Zeeman splitting of this...

High-field Zeeman contribution to the trion binding energy

We examine the role of the Zeeman interaction in determining the bound states of the trion at magnetic fields up to 50 T. Polarization-sensitive photoluminescence measurements on the singlet state of the positively charged trion (X) in GaAs quantum wells demonstrate a 60% enhancement of the g factor compared to that of the neutral exciton (X0) in the same sample. This leads to a situation in ve...

Optical spectroscopy of neutral and charged excitons in GaAs/AIGaAs quantum wells in high magnetic fields

We implement optical spectroscopy to study charged excitons in modulation-doped GaAs/AIGaAs quantum wells. We report the fLrs~ observation of the positively charged exciton and of the triplet state of the negatively charged exciton. Applyin~g a gate voltage at high magnetic fields, we investigate the transition between metallic and insulating state~ We find that while the photoluminescence fine...

Proposal for high-speed and high-fidelity electron-spin initialization in a negatively charged quantum dot coupled to a microcavity in a weak external magnetic field

Recent demonstrations of cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) effects with semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) coupled to microcavities [1–5] show that these systems are robust and scalable platforms for quantum information science. The QD-cavity QED experiments performed so far treat each QD as a two-level quantum system consisting of a ground state and the single exciton excited state. However, ...

Novel Excitonic States in Quantum Hall Systems: Bound States of Spin Waves and a Valence Band Hole

If the Zeeman energy is small, the lowest energy excitations of a two dimensional electron gas at filling factor ν = 1 are spin waves (spin flip excitations). At ν slightly larger (smaller) than unity, reversed spin electrons (spin holes) can form bound states with K spin waves that are known as skyrmions, S− K (antiskyrmions, S K ). It is suggested in this work that a valence hole can also bin...
